Get 1$ (well 2$) Drinks at a Bar

So I know some of you like to drink. Well I know I do, though I should stop doing it, but I was looking through some information and found out that the Iphone has a kinda wicked sounding app! The apps name is bartab, and it is a text based “coupon” redeemer. Let me kind of explain it, though I have not used it, I will give you the gist and get back to you after I have attempted it.

Ok so I live in Chicago somewhere, and if anyone reading this knows, its pretty expensive sometimes to drink. What this app asks you to do in the beginning is connect to facebook, which sadly I do not have, so I will have to use my girlfriends (i hate facebook). Then what you will be given is a map that shows the bars around you that have this feature enabled. I guess the bar has to participate in this and download some sort of program so you can redeem. So what you do is you send a text to a friend’s fb wall at the bar that’s participating. The recipient will then have to open his or her facebook page, of course, and redeem their drink within five minutes of receiving this text. Of course there is a small tiny catch, and if your friend is too cheap to pay or you’re too cheap to pay then this is not for you. The sender has to pay 1$ for this of course and the recipient also has to pay 1$ to receive it. Now really if that’s a “pain” then pay the full $5.50 or $7.00 on the drink if you want.

Over all this seems like a cool app, that’s if your city is included. They said that they will be adding more cities as the app gets polished. But really for 2$ overall it doesn’t seem like it takes rocket science to try it out. So go ahead and try it out. I will definitely put it to the test and get back and edit this after the jump. So go get your drink on!!!

You can find this app for FREE in the iTunes app store.

Eat Out On The Cheap With Restaurant.com

Restaurant.com Thousand of popular restaurants. Fo

I’m a big fan of not cooking for myself, I feel like I’m wasting food when I cook for one person so if my girlfriend isn’t over I would rather order something or go out and for those times when I go out, Restaurant.com can save me a lot of money.

If you’re not aware of what Restaurant.com is, it’s a site that allows you to buy gift certificates for select restaurants for cheaper than face value. They are almost like savings bonds that mature as soon as you print them out. For example, last night we went out for Sushi and used a $25 gift certificate that I paid $2 for, so essentially I saved us $23 on our meal last night. Now I’m sure you’re probably asking how I got a $25 gift certificate for $2 when the site lists most of the $25 ones at $10… well that’s where we come in. On the right side of this page you will see a Restaurant.com advertisement, it’s the small square under the Netflix ad. Below the Restaurant.com ad you will see some text, those are up to date promo codes that will net you a % off your total purchase. So with the current deal a $10 gift certificate is 80% off, which comes to $2.

So if you like to eat out I would definitely recommend checking out Restaurant.com and make sure to check back to this site for update promo codes when they become available (which is always).

Going to the grocery store can be a hassle. Making sure you get all the stuff on sale so that you don’t go over 300$ on just 10 items. Also carrying around those darn coupons can really be an experience. I’m sure some people have a system to it, but there is a more simple way to do it. Cellfire is an app that is on the iPhone that allows you to “stack” coupons onto your respected card. For instance, one of the stores that they accept is Dominicks. You just go onto the Cellfire website and type in your zip code, and it lays out all the coupons that are available for that time. Its pretty straight forward from there. There’s a big button under the coupon that says “add to card” you just click it and boom its on your card. Now I know you’re probably asking “what card?” Well some stores give away a sort of rewards type card that gives you items at lower price. And each of these cards has a number, like your ID number in a way. All you will have to do on the Cellfire website is add that number when it asks. You will of course also have to register with Cellfire, but that’s pretty simple. It also allows you to print out the coupons if you still want to lug those things around.

Over all this is a good app to have, or if you don’t have an iPhone, a good website to bookmark. It will really help you at the grocery stores. It will take a while until you get a system of your own, like I’m still trying to do, but in the end it will be so beneficial that you will kiss your phone or computer for helping you save money!
